John Ratey, bestselling author and clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, lucidly explains the human brain’s workings, and paves the way for a better understanding of how the brain affects who we are. Ratey provides insight into the basic structure and chemistry of the brain, and demonstrates how its systems shape our perceptions, emotions, and behavior. By giving us a greater understanding of how the brain responds to the guidance of its user, he provides us with knowledge that can enable us to improve our lives. In A User’s Guide to the Brain, Ratey clearly and succinctly surveys what scientists now know about the brain and how we use it. He looks at the brain as a malleable organ capable of improvement and change, like any muscle, and examines the way specific motor functions might be applied to overcome neural disorders ranging from everyday shyness to autism. Drawing on examples from his practice and from everyday life, Ratey illustrates that the most important lesson we can learn about our brains is how to use them to their maximum potential.

At this time of writing, The Mobi A User's Guide to the Brain: Perception, Attention, and the Four Theatres of the Brain has garnered 8 customer reviews with rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Not a bad score at all as if you round it off, it’s actually a perfect TEN already. From the looks of that rating, we can say the Mobi is Good TO READ!

Special Edition A User's Guide to the Brain: Perception, Attention, and the Four Theatres of the Brain with FREE PDF EDITION!

'A User's Guide to the Brain' summarizes how the brain works at a holistic level without oversimplifying. You will get a lot of technical neurology terms, but these will generally be defined and offered in a way that supports your understanding of a more global concept. John Ratey mixes technical explanation with general summaries and anecdotes to make it clear what he means. I learned a lot from this book, both on technical information and holistically. I found John Ratey's thoughts on attention, memory, and emotion to be especially insightful. The 'four theaters' analogy for how the brain works were fun and helped tie together concepts from other books. Almost nothing in this book has been disproven, although many questions the author had in 2002 have since been answered by more modern works. I recommend 'A User's Guide to the Brain' to those who would like to understand their brain better and to adults looking for an introduction to neurology.
